Supported files

Pureader directly opens and edits UTF-8 text files in these families:

• Rendered documents: HTML, Markdown, TeX and AsciiDoc
• Structured data: JSON, CSV, XML, YAML, OPML, INI, TOML and CONF
• Plain text: TXT and LOG
• Source code: Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Swift, Go, Rust and shell scripts

Reading, editing and saving

Open a file from Finder or the system document browser. Switch between reading and source editing, search its contents, and use the outline to navigate. Pureader remembers the reading position and zoom for recent documents. On iPhone and iPad, start a blank document or choose a template in the document browser. On Mac, choose a template to create a draft, then use Save to choose its destination.

Documents use UTF-8 text. Saving writes edits back to the original file. If another app changes the file while you have unpublished edits, follow the keep-or-reload prompt to decide which content to retain.

AI Edit help

Siri AI requires a supported Apple Intelligence device and an available on-device model. For cloud AI, configure the provider, model and any credentials required by your chosen service in Settings. You can also use a compatible endpoint that accepts requests without an API key. No cloud request is made until you press Send.

Open AI Edit from the document toolbar, enter an instruction, optionally attach supporting text files, and press Send. To edit a passage, select it in source editing before opening AI Edit. A successful result is applied directly; use Undo to restore the preceding text or Redo to reapply the edit. Stop ends generation. If a response is incomplete or the document changes during the request, Pureader reports the issue rather than replacing the text with that result.

On iPhone and iPad, a submitted request can continue after the AI popover closes. Use the generation status and Stop control to manage it. For provider errors, check the endpoint, model, credentials and the provider's service status

When something goes wrong

Please include your device type, operating-system version, Pureader version, file extension and the steps that reproduce the issue. A screenshot is helpful. Do not attach a confidential document; use a reduced sample when possible.
